How are you? y cómo responder
How are you? suele ser parte del saludo, y la respuesta habitual toma dos segundos: Fine, thanks. And you?
How are you? es la forma estándar.
Fine, thanks. And you? I’m good, thanks. How are you? Not bad, thanks. You?
O: A bit tired, but OK. Con un amigo cercano puedes contar más: Honestly, not great. I have a cold.
How’s it going? y How are you doing? significan lo mismo que how are you. Responde igual: Good, thanks! What’s up? es diferente. Significa qué hay de nuevo o qué está pasando, y lo habitual es responder Not much o Nothing much. You? No respondas What’s up? con Fine, thanks, porque no te están preguntando cómo estás.
Cuando te encuentras con alguien después de mucho tiempo, puedes decir: Long time no see! How have you been? I started a new job.
A veces alguien dice How are you? al pasar y no se detiene a escuchar la respuesta. Sonríe y di Good, thanks! al pasar.
